Daniel Ciurleo started playing classical guitar at the age of 14 after hearing a recording of ‘Prelude Number 1’ by Heitor Villa Lobos and the rest, as they say is history!
He studied at the Conservatorium of Music, University of Melbourne, under the guidance of Associate Professor John Griffiths and was here that he took part in master classes with Italian guitarist Piero Bonaguri, Australian guitarist John Williams and Spaniard Paco Pena. He also begun learning the double bass as a ‘second study’ instrument.
Daniel has played with the Victorian State Opera (now Opera Australia) in their production of Jules Massenet’s opera ‘Don Quixote’ as principal onstage guitarist and has also played a concert tour of Italy with the collaboration and help of the Australian Embassy in Rome for the ‘Associazione Giuseppe Tartini’.
Daniel’s television performances include guest appearances on ‘Good Morning Australia’ and ‘Good Morning Melbourne’ as a soloist following success on ‘New Faces’ with Bert Newton. He has released a CD entitled ‘From Lute to Lennon’.
Daniel has many years of teaching as well as performance experience, having taught in many Melbourne public and private primary and high schools, as well as teaching private students from 4 to 80 years of age. Daniel recently performed the famous 'Concierto De Aranjuez' by Joaqiun Rodrigo for with the Unley Symphony Orchestra as guest soloist as a part of the orchestra's 30th Anniversary Concert. He has also been appointed examiner in Classical Guitar by the Australian Music Examinations Board, University of Adelaide for South Australia and the Northern Territory.
